Jan 30 and 31, Santiago and setting sail

Today was our last day in Santiago, time to get a taxi and head for the bus depot. While waiting outside our hotel, on the corner there were 2 vendors each with shopping trolleys full of oranges trays of ice and a juice squeezer making fresh juice, they have a lot of strange things on corners here some people cutting up fruit for sale, as well as jugglers using balls rings & skittles who are very good and people washing windscreens like at home to mention a few. In the main area of town the green walking light has a time on it the man starts off walking and as it gets closer to turning red he walks faster in the end he is running. We got to the bus depot and boarded our coach for our two hour trip to the port at San Antonio it was a very comfortable coach and they dropped us off right at the baggage drop off. From start of boarding to embarking took approximately 20 minutes the quickest and easiest boarding we have ever had. Sail away was delayed for nearly 2 hours as the port was so busy.
After a relaxing sleep we went to a few very interesting talks one on the bird life we will see on our cruise mainly the different albatrosses and petrels the largest albatross has a wing span of 12 feet and they all stay at sea only landing to mate. We also went to a talk on volcanoes in Chile and also earthquakes there are a huge amount of volcanoes in Chile and they have had tsunami’s as well which is why they have signage all through the country giving you the route you need to take if you have to evacuate for one of these.  We went and watched a good movie called 33 about the mine disaster in Chile and then went to the show and saw a great comedian named Martin Beaumont he was very funny and quick probably one of the best comedians we have seen on a cruise, he has been to Melbourne for our comedy festival. Was another great day.
