Well the weather is still brilliant which is great for us,
as the captain says we are seeing the very best of the Chilean Fjords. We went
to a very informative talk on the early Antarctic explorers and also another
one on Antarctica a frozen continent
both of which were very interesting. All
the experts they have had on board have been really good they enjoy a laugh and
explain things in a way that anyone can understand and are so patient answering
every one’s questions. After lunch we were lucky enough to sail very close to
the Tempanos Glacier which was amazing we even saw some Peales Dolphins in the
water darting under the ship, and some Albatrosses not the largest ones, but
still quite large as these have an 8 foot wing span. While watching the glacier
a large chunk fell off with quite a large cracking sound, this is the first of
2 glaciers we will be seeing as tomorrow we will sail to another one, they
normally only see 1 glacier of the 3 in the fjords but again as the weather is
so great we will be able to see 2 of them. After viewing the glacier we sat up
in the crows nest for a few hours watching the amazing scenery in the fjords, we came across a ship wreck that had been there since 1964. The ship was carrying sugar and the captain decided he would sell it on the black market and make a huge profit which he agreed to share with his crew, so after offloading the sugar he sailed into this fjord and decided to run the ship aground to let it sink. He and the crew then made their way back to the port where they came from and the captain put in a claim for the ship sinking, problem was none of them had actually stayed to see the ship sink and when the insurance company sent out an investigator the ship was still there. He was fined a huge amount jailed for a few years and banned from every captaining a ship again. After enjoying a relaxing few hours in the crows nest it was once again happy hour then it was time for dinner and off to the
show, tonight was a juggler named Jaz Danion he is a two time record holder for
his feat of balancing a tower made up of 8 levels of wine glasses in between sheets
of plexi glass which he weaved across the stage holding with one hand all the
while the ship was gently rocking he even walked up and down the stairs and
through the audience.
Great photos mum.
