A beautiful day today top temp expected to be 30 so perfect
for sightseeing. After a lovely
breakfast made our way down to the tenders to go ashore and have a good look at
Castro Isla Grande de Chiloe, the largest island in the Chiloe archipelago.
Once we got through the Chilean security, checking for people bringing food off
the ship, we located a taxi driver who could speak a little bit of English and
spent 2 hours with him seeing all the sites he was very friendly and helpful as
much as possible with the language barrier. First we went to the San Francisco
church its purple and yellow so hard to miss and is made completely of wood its
very beautiful and is a UNESCO site, built in 1906 after that we went to a
completely different church also made completely of wood which was also very
pretty and had a cemetery around it. We went and had a look at the brightly coloured
traditional houses on stilts called palafitos which is one of the main tourist
attractions here. Then he took us past the casino and the market and went up a
very dusty and windy road to the top of a hill which allowed fantastic views of
the town, we thought it was small like a village to start with but was
surprised to see just how big it is. After our tour we made our way back to the
tender and onto the ship in time for happy hour and sail away. The sail away
was lovely through the channel with lots of fish pens on the way even saw some sneaky
seals sitting on top trying to catch a few fish. Also had views of snow-covered
mountains and the volcanoes again. After dinner tonight, we went to the show
room and saw an extremely talented flutist Andrea Amat. Sundown is 9.38 tonight
and is getting later every day.
