Feb 06, Punta Arenas

The weather today is more what we expected coming to Antarctica, overcast a little bit of drizzle and a high of 13, big difference from the past few days. We got the shuttle bus from the port into Punta Arenas, about  a 10 minute ride and were dropped off at the city square. The square was quite pretty with a statue to Magellan in the centre, one of the other figures on the statue had a shiny foot where apparently if you rub it you get good luck, as you can see Pete did. There was a woman in the square playing the pan flute which was lovely, you could hear her all across the square. On one of the corners was a beautiful old house which is now open to the public it was designed and built for Sara Braun who is very famous in this town. She did a lot to help the people of this town and left a legacy to help with schooling and the arts, her house is beautiful and was well worth the self guided tour that we did.  After leaving her house we went and had the obligatory look in the church which was located on another one of the corners, we also had a look at a few of the souvenir kiosks and took a couple of pictures. Not a lot to do in this town unless you want to go to museums or for a long drive to see penguins figured we would see enough penguins over the next few days and as my knees are both hurting at the moment figured we had seen enough so time to return to the ship.
